I was asked to share with you some tips to help people preparing for Diamond Club.  The preparation is almost the same as if you were embarking on dōTERRA as a career path.  The only difference is that in Diamond Club, you have to meet enrollment quotas and travel requirements set by Diamond Club rules.

First figure out your WHY

So you love the essential oils and see the potential financial benefits?  You think you might give it a go, right?

If you want to earn enough to pay for your oils, perhaps that reason is enough.  But if you are looking to not only to replace your income but also have massive residual income, and enormous influence on communities, then invest more time and patience in discovering your WHY!

Search deep in your heart. Ask yourself what do you believe is your potential?  How can you make a difference in the world?  What is your purpose on earth?  I know these are sort of deep questions, but you don’t want to do dōTERRA or anything for that matter because it is JUST another job or that you see how successful this company is, so you might as well jump on the wagon and wing it!  If you want to trade in years of your life working for something, make the effort worth it and a VALUABLE investment in every way!

You can tell people all about the benefits of the essential oils and how much money they can make till you turn blue!!

In the end, people buy your WHYs because it resonates with their whys!  So it makes sense to spend time figuring out why you are doing this business.

My reason for doing dōTERRA as a business is that I believe wholeheartedly, it can help me be a force for good.  We can bring a message of healing, hope and peace to the world.  I believe people can heal themselves.  I am fiercely passionate about freedom.  I believe people can be free of their health problems and financial problems.  I envision that my dōTERRA business will give me the time freedom I desire. This means I can have time do what God inspires me to do whenever and wherever in the world without worrying about the bondage of debts, bills etc.!

Your why can inspire people and naturally they want to join you in this noble cause.

Make an action plan

My husband, Ben, and I have a mission statement for our business.  All our actions align with our mission.  Create your own mission statement.  With that, you can easily create a business system for yourself.  dōTERRA is so versatile.  A chiropractor, a yoga instructor or a massage therapist would do dōTERRA differently to how I do it.  Work out how you want to do your business and start with what you are good at.

Draw a picture of your team organisation.  Which teams or areas do you want to concentrate on?  Where do you need growth?  Visualise your ideal team on paper.  How many days and hours are you prepared to work?  My role as a mother and wife is very important to me, so the time I work in my business needs to be efficient and effective.  I dedicate only 20 hours a week (mostly during school hours) to my dōTERRA business.  I am becoming more and more efficient in my time management.  Most days I get it all done.  Yes, really!  The whole family is involved in the housework and meal preparations.  Between the times I pick up the kids to 7pm, I am with my family.  After 7 or 8pm, my husband helps with the kids and I might do a couple of extra hours more in my dōTERRA business if I need to.

Leverage your resources

Especially when you are doing Diamond Club, you should let your family and friends know what you are doing.  Help people understand that you are actually ‘working.’  When you do that, I find many people offer different ways to support you such as baby-sitting or even hosting classes for you! These are your human resources!

Other resources to consider are utilizing technology proficiently such as shared family calendar, investing in smart phones and tablets, quick accounting programs etc. I am always open to new, time saving and efficient resources.

Treat this as a legitimate serious business!

This is not a 9 to 5 job but it is still a real job!  Fill your calendar up with ‘rain making activities’.  Work out what activities grows your business and which distracts.  Not only should you plan all four months of Diamond Club, but also you should plan for the whole year.

I have plans beyond a year.  I know where I would like to take my business.  You are the boss.  You’ve employed yourself.  If you take time off, you need to make up for that time elsewhere if you don’t want a pay cut.  I work 20-30 hours a week.  I suggest you block out time for work and stick with it. Unless it is urgent, you can’t let others interrupt your working hours.  You don’t have to take every phone call or go to every party.

Having said that, my working hours look like I am not working.  That’s the beauty of my dōTERRA business.  Having lunch with a friend while I show her the essential oils counts as working so on my records that is ‘Prospecting Time’.

Are you lacking in confidence?

Go out there and do it anyways!  Don’t wait till you ‘get confident’ before you start. Follow your plan as if you are hired to do a job.  Ask yourself; would you hire you?  Confidence only comes with practice.  Eventually the good experiences will outweigh the bad ones.  Be ok with making mistakes.  Mistakes are not failures.  True failure is not learning from your mistakes or being too scared to even try.   Now that’s sad!  If your WHY is burning strong enough, you will have the motivation to not only keep going, but you’ll have energy and excitement that wakes you up early in the morning and perhaps keeps you up late too.

More on Time Management

When I did travel away from home, I fill up the calendar and strategized so I can maximize my efforts and the time away. Often, I would schedule three meetings a day in the same area.

I like to maximize my travel time. I have shared oils with people at the airport and on the plane.  I’ve signed up several people on the airplane too.  I always prepare extra forms and essential oil information sheets in my carry-ons.  If I am sitting by a person who is uninterested, I use that time for personal development.  Consider using your car as your personal development university!  I love listening to audiobooks on long drives.  I have many audiobooks.  My favorites are The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.

Be organized and prepared

This might come across as OCD!  As a schoolteacher, I planned and prepared my work resourcefully.  When I executed my plans, it looks easy to the observer, but there was a lot of thought put in the lesson. Once you get the basic organized systems down, you just repeat and repeat the actions.  I get a lot done in a short amount of time now because of the original time I invested in organising.

So organise the following:

  • Your home office
  • Your dōTERRA intro bag
  • Your product display bag
  • Computer files
  • Emails
  • Accounting system
  • And more …

It is important to plan down-time and play-time that you can look forward to.  Diamond Club is the fast track training ground for your business.  Business continues after Diamond Club too.  So if you learn to schedule in time to recharge and refocus, you’ll continue that momentum forever!

I like to take most of Saturdays off and all of Sundays off.  On Sundays, I go to church and recharge my spirit.  I make a good meal for the family.  We all rest, talk and review the big picture.  We revisit all the positive things and celebrate milestones.   We chat until that passion is burning strong again.  A few times we’ve added new images to our vision board.

During other down-times, I’d give myself a well deserved pamper of some sort. I’ve booked myself in for a massage, a facial or to get my hair done.  Retail therapy works for me too.

Clear communications

At the beginning of any class, I always ‘Check for Understanding’.  This is a teacher term where I assess my audience.  What do they know about essential oils?  Who are they?  What are their needs?  Then I start by introducing me and WHY I am there.  I want to communicate to the class my objective so they know what to expect from our event.  Since my WHY is clear to me, I feel people see my vision and it comes across in my classes and events.

When working with people, there are only a few people I’ve ever known, that for some reason are difficult to communicate with.  Those people don’t answer calls, texts or emails.  I choose to work with people I can communicate with.  That’s the beauty of this business.  You can choose who you work with!  When I communicate with my teammates or hostesses, I help them understand what to expect.  If people don’t respond in a timely manner and keep commitments, then I know to spend time with other people who can keep commitments.

Be present and enjoy the moments

When I first started travelling in my dōTERRA business, I would miss and worry about my kids and my husband.  I was not very effective in my events when I did that.  Eventually, I realized that I couldn’t do anything about the family and the home while I was away, so I decided to focus on the present moment.  I focused on the person or people I was with and helped meet their needs wholeheartedly.  This made me happy!  I told myself I could worry and fuss over the family when I get home.  This really helped me.  In the end, the family stepped up and learned to be more responsible, independent and more appreciative of all I do for them!  Win-win!

I thank God for this dōTERRA opportunity every day!  I can’t think of a better career for me.  I have it all!  I get to help people in all sorts of ways, I get to learn about and have great health, I travel the world, I can be with my sweet husband full-time, I have more personal development time, I work only the hours I want to work and I exponentially grow my income by the month!
